Second National Award for Professor Barriteau

For Release Upon Receipt - Monday, February 8, 2016

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of The University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus Professor Eudine Barriteau has been awarded another national honour by a second Caribbean nation. On this occasion, it was bestowed on her by Grenada the country of her birth.

Professor Barriteau received The Order of Grenada Gold Award for Excellence at a ceremony in the Spice Isle’s historic Queens Park Oval on Sunday February 7, 2016, marking that country’s 42nd Anniversary of Independence.

“I am deeply honoured to have been selected to receive this national honour,” Professor Barriteau said.

“I played in Queen’s Park as a child when I lived in River Road,” she added. “I never dreamed I would return and receive a National award in that same park.

“I have grown up in Barbados and it is very moving and humbling that in spite of my years out of Grenada, my country of birth continues to embrace me and be proud of my achievements. I am very grateful, proud and honoured to receive this recognition.”

The award from Grenada follows a similar national award bestowed on Professor Barriteau by the Government of Barbados two years ago. She received the Gold Crown of Merit in November 2013 on the occasion of the Forty-seventh Anniversary of the Independence of Barbados.
