CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank Donates to Campus

For Release Upon Receipt - Tuesday, June 18, 2019

_DSC0644 (1)ED-6-18-2019.jpgThe CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank has continued to demonstrate its support for academic and other initiatives at The UWI Cave Hill.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, the bank donated routers and hubs for computer networking to the Faculty of Science and Technology, as part of a drive to repurpose equipment which was no longer needed by the bank owing to its technical upgrades.

The presentation was made when senior bank officials paid a courtesy call on the campus. Among those present for the handover of equipment were the bank’s chief executive officer Colette Delaney, Director of Corporate Communications, Debra King and Chief Accountant, Trudy King.

Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Colin Depradine, was on hand to receive the equipment. He said that routers and hubs will be used for hands-on learning by students in the Department of Computers, Mathematics and Physics as well as those in the Computer Science Society.

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Eudine Barriteau said she was “delighted to receive” the equipment, adding that the gesture aligned well with the Campus’ efforts towards becoming a Smart Campus.

“Any equipment that advances our ability to be smart [is welcomed] … The real goal is that by 2030, the Cave Hill campus has to be a Smart Campus for the 21st century,” she said.

The Principal also spoke of plans to upgrade the Faculty of Science and Technology as well as the Information and Communications Technology structure at the campus, including the move to the Banner 9 Enterprise Resource Planning system.
